From the Beer Barrell Polka at Brewer’s games to learning about Salia Koroma while driving upline to Kahilaun, Sierra Leone, the accordion is near and dear to me in many ways (I tell people I’m mixed ethnically, but I’m 100% accordion). It’s often an under appreciated instrument, but you can hardly match the enthusiasm for it whenever you encounter a fan. So here I am throwing my hat in with that lot, as I present a show on NTS dedicated to the squeeze box. We are touching down everywhere from Kenema to Port of Spain, Baton Rouge to Recife! Stream live tonight at 8pm PST on @nts_radio (at Los Angeles, California)

When I started this thing called INTL BLK, the idea was to use culture to draw connections between diverse populations in different nations to break down borders and build up our claims to humanity in the face of histories of colonization, forced migration, bondage and reactionary repression. Heady stuff for a music label. So I’m happy to announce a new partnership that will be kicking off in November, one that will allow some of this cebebral theoretical stuff to play out in real life.

This upcoming Day of Black Conciousness in Brazil, INTL BLK will be partnering with @afrolatinotravel to offer a trip for all those interested to visit Brazil and get a taste of the growing Black Conciousness movement that is growing there. We will bring a group from North America to visit important historical sites and engage with contemporary Afro Brazilian culture over 10 days, culminating in the celebration marking Dia de Conciencia Negra, or Zumbi Day as its known popularly. The idea is to foster learning, exchange and plant the seeds for solidarity. If you’re interested visit @afrolatinotravel for more information including costs and itinerary! (at Brazil)
